Galvarino Ceron Carrasco

Galo, to his friend, is a Scottish classical trained musician and my musical companion in Scotland for many years. We have done so many things together and it is fair to say that my own music has been enhanced with his playing talent. We can hear him playing in most of my songs of "Tragicosmicas". We have enjoyed playing together in many part of Britain including London. I have literally dragged him to play only Latin American composers such as Ginastera, Piazzolla, Villlalobos, Lauro, Ponce, Barrios and Brouwer: Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, Paraguay and Cuba all united by Galo's fingers. He has done so many things since he was "wee": Solidarity work with Chile, a founder of Salsa Celtica and he has recently been involved in theatre work. Galo and his sister, Dr Rubi Ceron, are of Mapuche origin and both came to live in Dundee with their parents back in the 70s. Galo's and Rubi's father were Pinochet prisoners in a concentration camp in a very isolated cold and windy isle called La Isla Dawson and situated in the Strait of Magellan. Kalkutun Live in Edinburgh
Varia gente me ha preguntado de donde sale Kalkutun. Para empezar , poca gente va a saber que la palabra en mapungundun significa algo así como "embrujar" o "hechizar" En fin, el comienzo de este experimento se lo debo a un largo invierno escocés, cuando escuché un comentario de una gente escocesa que decía "estamos hartos de la música andina".Ahí decidí abrigarme bien y empezar a componer unos arreglos de música andina para cuarteto clásico, el objetivo era de hacer re-nacer en términos "europeos" esta música nuestra que en la ultima década ha estado en "decadencia" aquí en las europas. En términos mas simples lo que quise hacer con estos arreglos fue una "traducción", y al mismo tiempo refrescar la memoria del oído latino-americano, la idea era que la gente se preguntara, conozco esa melodía pero de ¿dónde? Esta primera idea del cuarteto NO RESULTO - lo supe por la cara de pregunta que me ofreció el primer cuarteto que tocó los arreglos por primera vez. Decidí arrancar silenciosamente con las partituras, y volví a mi escritorio, y gracias al largo invierno escocés, nació la idea de este pequeño grupo de cámara que consiste en: Un violín, dos violas, un contrabajo, dos guitarras, tres percusionistas y un poeta. Esta grabación fue hecha durante el festival hispáno- americano en Edimburgo, gracias al incentivo de Jim Sutherland quien escuchó los arreglos y sugirió a los organizadores del festival de ponernos en el programa. No quise poner los nombres de las piezas para que el que las escuche se pregunte...siyoheoídoestamelodíaperodónde...jeje!
